More than Human: Ouseburn Multispecies Futures

Wild Roots Community Garden, Ouseburn
Join the artist James Stephen Wright in person at the Wild Roots Community Garden for an exciting dive into the world of multispecies futures and create a digital artwork to be displayed at the This is the North Convention in Scarborough!
Inspired by the community garden, we will make masks of the different creatures that could inhabit the Ouseburn and imagine what they need to keep their community going. Embodying the non-human creatures, we will collectively do a masked performance, which will be transformed digitally by interacting live with local climate data.
This event is taking place on land connected to the Whoseburn? Project, an initiative testing alternative approaches to urban development in the area.

We are worrying about whether the Olympics will come to the North, but the world is on fire. The Paris Olympic Games emitted 1.75 million tonnes of CO₂e, which is equivalent to the total annual carbon footprint of a city the size of Middlesborough.
The Rings of the North is a multi-media installation that explores relationships between place, regeneration and the climate emergency. Embodying more-than-human voices, The Rings of the North invites the visitors to imagine a relationship of care with our natural surrounding. How can we collaborate with rather than extract from the non-human world in the decisions that we make about the future of the region?
